Flansburgh Architects sponsors tour
12.10.08Tour of Stanley Elementary School at 2008 Greenbuild Conference
Tour Date: 22 November 2008 Flansburgh Architects sponsored a Greenbuild Conference tour of the Stanley Elementary School in Waltham, MA. Completed in 2004, Stanley was the very first LEED certified public school in Massachusetts, earning a SIlver rating in that year. Now almost five years old, the facility entertained attendees of Greenbuild in the conference's School Facilities Tour that included several other local area projects. Led by James Carr AIA, former Flansburgh Project Architect for Stanley, and now independent LEED Consultant, the tour showcased the sustainable features within the school and described the process of documenting the project in the pioneering years of LEED certification. Assisted by Andrea Ranger formerly of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, and by Flansburgh Architects' Vince Dube, AIA, and Chris Brown, AIA, the 30 tour-goers were treated to a comprehensive viewing of this still very relevant Massachusetts green school project.

FAI Powered by Wind Energy
03.19.07Read More
FAI’s 2006 Wind Power Purchase 12/13/06 Since June of 2006 the electricity used to power FAI’s operations has been provided by wind energy. This has been made possible through a governmental program in which an institution, firm or individual can decide pay a premium for the electricity they consume buy purchasing energy credits. That premium is, in turn, channeled to producers of wind power as a subsidy that helps them maintain and develop their wind generating capacity. FAI buys its wind power through a company called Renewable Choice Energy (www.renewablechoice.com) located in Colorado. Our purchase of 175,000 kilowatt-hours saved 834,800 pounds of carbon dioxide. According to Renewable Choice Energy this had the same environmental impact as: • Planting 3,298 trees on 33 acres of land • Saving 105,300 gallons of water • Not burning 85,418 pounds of coal • Not driving 266,699 miles in an average car
