Malden High School | Malden, MA
Restoration of Art Deco Theatre
Malden High School consists of three existing buildings, two were built in the 1970s, the third built in 1935 in the Art Deco Style, with a total of 475,000 square feet to accommodate 2,000 students. Flansburgh’s design approach separates Grades 9-12 into four distinct houses, each with separate administrations, classrooms, production spaces, teacher prep areas, and entrances, with core spaces shared among the four houses. The renovation includes the creation of a new entry and entry plaza, redesigned courtyards, resolution of ADA accessibility, and the addition of air conditioning and improved ventilation to various parts of the building. Following the success of the Salem High School project, Malden elected to utilize the CM-at-Risk process. Upon completion of the renovations, the project will be more than $10M under budget.
