Rochester Memorial Elementary School | Rochester, MA
Addition and Renovation
Rochester’s only elementary school, the Memorial School, has seen significant enrollment increases in recent years as the southeastern corner of Massachusetts has grown in population. The town needed to expand the existing school quickly to keep class sizes within limits or temporary classrooms would be required. In order to meet that pressing need for an aggressive design and construction schedule, Flansburgh employed the following two strategies:
• Building the needed 28,000 square foot classroom addition using a pre-cast concrete wall, floor, and roof system to minimize erection time so that the addition will be completed in only nine months, December 2010; and
• Utilizing the CM-at-Risk process to fast track the design and construction sequences.
By completing the addition quickly, students will be moved in phases into the addition from portions of the building to accommodate the needed renovations. The whole project will be finished in only 24 months.
