Renovation
Flansburgh Architects designed the phased renovation of Salem High School, a 1970s, 430,000 square foot facility serving a 1,500-student population. The scope included roof replacement, resolution of ADA accessibility, exterior envelope improvements, new interior finishes, HVAC, plumbing, and data/electrical upgrades. To bring the high school’s existing layout up to current educational standards, Flansburgh reconfigured and modified large, open-plan areas into specialized functions for music, arts, a state-of-the-art library/media center, and science labs. Salem High School was the first public school in Massachusetts to utilize the new state-approved CM-at-Risk process, which brought the project in on time and within budget. This project earned the 2010 Renovation & Modernization Award from the New Chapter of Construction Managers Association of America.
